Hubby My Sweetest Chef

Today is Labour day!
Today Hubby came over in the morning and we went marketing!
I woke up late as usual, HEE!
Hubby came over and we caught up with my parents as I always take very long to get ready always!
I'm like the Princess of Procrastination,,, :P
Anyways, I forgot to bring the SHOPPING LIST~!
Thankfully I remembered a bit haha!
Hubby Didnt forget too!
Hubby and I walked around and went to the wet market.
My mum told me earlier which stalls to go to get what.
I am like finally going to the wet market for marketing since many moons ago!
It has been years since I last stepped into the wet market!

First Stop!
We bought RED SNAPPER! Hubby bought 2 tails! I thought it was quite a big portion but it isn't expensive so I went along with him. This is my First Time going marketing with Hubby, just like Husband and Wives do. *n_n*

Second Stop!
We bought PORK! Haha I do not know what pork is suitable to cook the dish Hubby wanted so the butcher decided for us.

Third Stop!
We bought SQUID! Hubby needed squid for his 3rd dish with vegetables.

Fourth Stop!
We bought all the VEGETABLES required, including

  1. Chilli Padi
  2. Any vegetables I want to eat ( I chose Xiao Bai Cai )
  3. Parsley
  4. Capsicum
  5. Pandan Leaf!
I want Hubby to cook Green coloured rice hee!

Fifth Stop!
Go NTUC buy THAI CHILLI SAUCE & TOMATO SAUCE~!

Lastly!
Coconut Milk!

Hubby gonna cook Fish, Sweet and Sour Pork and Stir Fried Squid and Vegetables!

So I started by helping Hubby to soak the vegetables at about 3:30. Then I started peeling and breaking the stems off the Xiao Bai Cai. Hubby sliced the capsicum and ginger. I also helped to cut the stems, chooped up the garlic, sliced the parsley and a small portion of the pork as Hubby said I was doing it too slow so I only sliced the onion into fours and Hubby peeled them. Hubby sliced the rest of the pork while I tried to get rid of the fats :P My mother came and taught us how to handle the squid, removing the skin, teeth and the bone, together with the ink bag. I sliced the squid though~! :D Hubby also sliced the chilli padis.

I felt that the pork contained too much fats. I tried to remove some but Hubby said that the pork will not taste nice without fats. Hence, I stopped because I knew fats is a flavour-carrier. Anything would taste quite bland if you remove the fats after you cooked something.

There was once when I came home late but my mother kept soup for me. I did not want to wake her up, therefore I heat the soup up myself. As the soup is cold and is left there for quite sometime, all the oil segregated into big blobs. I happily scooped them out, leaving small oil bubbles before heat it up. When I tasted it, I was quite shocked that the soup has no taste at all. You can only taste a little of the flavour that was supposed to be there. I apologized to my cousin too as he was also supposed to drink the soup. >_<

Preparing and cooking with Hubby was so much fun! I felt that the preparation of the food was the more endearing part. It helps to create bonds and of course, brings us closer as we work together. The cooking part was hubby alone though,,, I have stopped cooking for quite some time so I am quite fearful of the oil sizzling and "bursting" up towards me. #^_^#

What would I do without him? :D

Back to the cooking!

Hubby started to blend the pandan leaf first! However the blender had a problem so we used the mortar and pestle to squeeze out the juice instead. Hubby then used the coffee bag thing to filter out the juice from the residue of the leaf as the leaf residue can prick the mouth. Hubby then poured them into the rice cooker, together with coconut milk and the rice washed prior to that. Hubby then top up the amount of water required to cook the rice with water. The rice did not taste bland at all. The rice was very fragrant and it also has a green tinge to it!

Hubby cooked the fishy first. Hubby poured quite a lot of water into the wok and used dark soya sauce, sugar and abit of salt for taste. Hubby also added sliced chilli padi for the sauce. When hubby was waiting for the fishy to be cooked, the sauce tasted really really super spicy! However, when it was cooled down later during dinner time, it does not taste spicy at all! :( There was just a slight tinge of peppery kind of spiciness.

Hubby proceeded to cook the Sweet and Sour Pork! It was super nice! Hubby use the tomato and thai chilli sauce for this dish. The flavour was just right! The capsicum and I think cucumber was also added into this dish! YUM YUM~!!! ♥♥♥

Lastly, Hubby cooked the squid and the vegetables together~! Hubby did not want to add too much seasonings but the gravy was a little salty though~ The gravy was actually tasteless when Hubby was cooking it.

Then Finally,,,, TADA~!

The SUMPTOUS Spread~!!!
The fishy is too big~! Need to use 2 serving plates~!

Sweet and Sour Pork~!! YUMYUM~!!!

FISHY~!!!

FISHY~!!!

SQUIDY with VEGGIE~!!!

GREEN RICEY~!!!
The colour is abit off because I shook the phone as my dad was nagging at me to eat my dinner! >_<

Anyway Hubby rented a car and we will be collecting it tomorrow~! I just cant wait for Tomorrow to come! ♥♥♥
